Did Matthew make good choices in his career?

Did he make a big mistake when he didn't use the fame of 'Friends' to get parts in a lot of movies like Jennifer did?
Jennifer was really clever about this. She made several 'safe' movies like Along Came Polly or the Rock Star but she also tried herself in different kinds of movies like The Good Girl. But Matthew always remained on the safe side. All his movies were on the similar track: funny guy finds love. And the characters were quite close to Chandler's.
Jennifer made lots of movies since Friends ended. (Friends with money, Rumor has it and now The Breakup). Lisa Kudrow also starred in a movie (Happy Endings) and started her own series. Courteney Cox also made two movies (November, The Longest Yard) AND had a baby meanwhile producing three TV shows. These chances were there to Matthew as well. He could do a show on his own, he's got the talents. He could do some movies - hard to believe that nothing good was written in Hollywood in the past 1.5 years.
I don't know Hollywood and the life on sets but I know addictions to a certain extent. And I know that it's harder to deal with them if you've got nothing else to do. And 'Friends' really opened many doors to Matthew and the cast members. I don't think the doors have closed but they are not wide open anymore. Wake up, Matthew before they all close!
